France's AMF warns investors against investments in diamonds

France's AMF warns investors against investments in diamonds

The AMF (French Market Authority) recently published a list on its website of unauthorised diamond investments platforms.

The AMF warns investors about proposals to invest in diamonds without complying with new regulations. A list of these websites is now available on the AMF website.

The law of 9 December 2016 on transparency, the fight against corruption and the modernisation of economic life (the "Sapin II" law) has introduced changes in the system of intermediation in miscellaneous assets such as diamonds.

Despite the AMF's warning regarding this new regulation, these platforms keep advertising and/or marketing to the French public.

Here is the list of the websites:

This list is available of the AMFs website.

These websites may change very quickly and this list is not intended to be exhaustive.

Lastly, the AMF reminds investors to follow these safety guidelines before making any investment:

Arrow no advertising materials should make you overlook the fact that high returns always involve high risk;
Arrow learn as much as you can about the company or intermediary trying to sell you a product (authorization/certification, company history, location of head offices, etc.);
Arrow only invest in a product you understand;
Arrow ask yourself how, and by whom, the purchase price or selling price of the advertised product is set, and find out the precise terms and timeline for selling the product, especially in cases where the product invests in an asset class with low liquidity.
