While economists are increasingly mentioning the risk of an economic crisis in 2019, Natixis discusses the possibility of a recession in the eurozone next year. Natixis points out that recent economic data from the euro zone have been negative, and investigates the possibility of a recession in 2019.

"The recent economic indicators in the eurozone are clearly negative, so we have to start asking ourselves: could there be a recession in the euro zone in 2019?

A recession scenario in the euro area is difficult to back as of right now, though.

In view of the cyclical decline in investment and durable goods orders, the stagnation of real wages, difficulties experienced by companies in hiring and rising interest rates in Italy, growth in the euro zone will certainly slow down in 2019.

However, there are several factors supporting economic activity there: expansionary taxation and monetary policies, the highly stable financial situation of companies, declining household debt levels, the lack of price bubbles and the fall in oil prices. In view of these factors supporting growth, we don't think that there could be a recession in the euro zone in 2019.
