The Russian MetaQuotes company no longer intends to provide updates for MetaTrader 4 (MT4), it will now focus entirely on its successor MetaTrader 5 (MT5).

Anthony Papaevagorou, the sales manager at MetaQuotes, said: "We do not intend to continue developing MetaTrader 4. Given this, MT4 will slowly disappear. MT5 was already struggling to keep up with MT4 and our other offerings, our problem is that we are victims of our own success."

In recent months, MetaQuotes has been focusing on MT5. All versions of the platform have been improved to encourage brokers and traders to abandon MT4.
MetaQuotes added the hedging feature to MT5 (a long-awaited feature), a chat feature, a strategy tester, new graphic solutions, one-click trading, the opening of demo accounts, a gateway to the CQG trading platform and electronic traceability, thus providing direct access to a number of instruments traded on world markets. The platform also added some new liquidity providers like Alpari, FXCM Pro, Swissquote Bank and LMAX Exchange.

MetaQuoted recently announced the addition of Skrill as an electronic payment system in addition to the seven other money transfer systems - Visa, Mastercard and Union Pay, MQL5 community, Paypal, Web Money, Neteller and ePayments.

The number of brokers that support the platform is increasing. In June, developers reported that MT5 was used by 4 of the top 10 brokers in Pakistan only one year after its launch in the country, while the number of brokers offering trading platform on the Gold Exchange (DGCX) increased From 1 to 10 in one year.

MT4 and MT5 are the most widely used trading platforms for forex, contracts for difference (CFD), options and futures. MT5 also offers a function for trading stocks. Both platforms use the MQL programming language.

These platforms enable the use of automated trading with Expert Advisors (EA) and offer numerous graphical analysis tools, alerts, signals and customisable indicators.

MT5 trading is included in Pepperstone's offer.
